IC Ippudo Sydney

With its original restaurant located in Hakata, Japan. IPPUDO finally opened its first branch in Australia in Sydney. Located in 5th level of Westfield Sydney Shopping Centre, Ippudo restaurant has always been very busy and crowded, due to its popularity and definitely the delicious ramen.

After having opened restaurants in New York, Singapore, Seoul, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Shanghai they bring their famous Shiromaru, Akamaru and Karakamen ramen for the first time to the Australian public.

Some of the foods that we tried:

1. Akamaru Shinaji

The Akamaru Shinaji ramen is served with red bowl, while the Shiromaru Motoaji is served with white bowl. These 2 types of ramen are the most famous ramen from IPPUDO. We did try them both, and we personally liked the red bowl better than the white one. However, both ramen are very famous and must try items from Ippudo.

2. Ippudo Pork Bun

This braised pork fillet with Ippudo's special sauce, covered with a slice of lettuce and super fluffy bun, is another must-try menu in Ippudo restaurant.

3. Sauteed Tasmanian Salmon

Salmon with maitre d' butter with an accent of Japanese shiso accompanied by seasonal vegetables. This dish is only served during dinner time, and we really enjoyed the dish, the salmon was cooked and grilled perfectly, the special butter was awesome and the vegetables were fresh and delicious. Another great dish from Ippudo.

With their awesome foods and dessert that blew us away, this restaurant always gets fully booked during weekday and weekend, hence, it would be a great idea to make a reservation beforehand. Some of the foods that we tried:

1. HAPUKA miso glaze, bonito flakes, exotic mushrooms, bok choi, ginger, prawn dumplings

This main ingredient of this item is the seared HAPUKA Fish served with an amazing broth. This main dish was quite delicious, the broth was awesome, however the fish and the rest were just okay.

2. PORK RACK organic, roasted, white beans, sauteed greens, apple puree, smoked pork sauce

Unlike the HAPUKA fish, this dish is one of the must-try dishes in BLACK by Ezard. The pork rack was grilled perfectly, served with the apple puree and pork sauce that mix perfectly in your mouth.

3. CHOCOLATE warm couverture ganache, dulce de leche ice cream, peanut butter mousse

This is the most famous dessert in BLACK by Ezard, the chocolate ganache. And of course, this is a must-try menu for those who like sweet stuffs.

Above is the layout of the Chocolate Ganache when served to your table. The waiter then will pour a cup of hot chocolate sauce on top of that big chocolate ball, which will softly melt and crack the ball. Inside the ball, there is a dulce le leche ice cream, and peanut butter mouse, topped with the cracked chocolate ball and the dripping chocolate sauce. Heavenly taste.

IC SOKYO Japanese Restaurant

SOKYO Japanese Restaurant is located in The Star, Pyrmont.
To be exact, it is located on Level G, The Darling The Star/80 Pyrmont St, Pyrmont NSW 2009.
Awarded as a One-Hat Restaurant, Sokyo is that type of memorable Japanese fine dining experience that you would never forget.
The service was excellent, the interior design of the restaurant was stunning, and not to forget to mention the foods that were spectacular.

Awards for SOKYO:

- One Chef's Hat (2014):
The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide
- Two Glasses (2013):
Gourmet Traveller Wine List of the Year Awards
- Award of Excellence (2012):
Wine Spectator Restaurant Wine List Awards

When you order, the waiter will give you tips in ordering the menu, they would recommend to share everything since the portions are not quite big, so it is basically like a tasting menu where you can taste a lot of food. Normally, you can share one portion of food with 2-3 people, hence, if your group contains more than that, it would be good to order 2 or more servings of each type of food.

Here are some of the food that we ordered:

1. Kingfish Miso Ceviche

An awesome starter, it is basically a Kingfish Sashimi with some crispy stuffs on top of it. The sashimi itself tastes savoury and little bit sweet. Squeezing the lemon to be poured on top of the sashimi would be a great idea for you who like a bit of sour taste.

2. Dengakuman

Dengakuman is a caramelised miso cod, with japanese salsa, and served with cucumber salad.
This is a must try menu. The soft texture of cod with little bit of sweet and savoury taste was indeed a pleasure for those who eat them.

3. Donatsu

Donatsu is basically a round-shaped doughnut with pineapple filling. This is a type of warm dessert, where you can feel the pineapple filling melt and spread in your mouth. Heavenly taste. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and cranberry sauce, it was indeed a perfect dessert to finish your Sokyo experience.

P.s: It would be a great idea to book your table first before coming in to the restaurant, since the restaurant is very busy and there is a high chance of you not getting a table because it has been fully booked for the night (especially during the weekend).

Cheers,
Yoppie
