The restaurant is usually very busy in the early hours
It is definitely a great place to go for late dinner as they close late till 2 am and the food is affordable as well.

The desserts are to die for surely, my favorite is the sticky rice with coconut cream and palm sugar. And the coconut ice cream just melts in your mouth so creamy and subtle in the tastebuds.

IC SOKYO Japanese Restaurant

SOKYO Japanese Restaurant is located in The Star, Pyrmont.
To be exact, it is located on Level G, The Darling The Star/80 Pyrmont St, Pyrmont NSW 2009.
Awarded as a One-Hat Restaurant, Sokyo is that type of memorable Japanese fine dining experience that you would never forget.
The service was excellent, the interior design of the restaurant was stunning, and not to forget to mention the foods that were spectacular.

Awards for SOKYO:

The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide
- Two Glasses (2013):
Gourmet Traveller Wine List of the Year Awards
- Award of Excellence (2012):

When you order, the waiter will give you tips in ordering the menu, they would recommend to share everything since the portions are not quite big, so it is basically like a tasting menu where you can taste a lot of food. Normally, you can share one portion of food with 2-3 people, hence, if your group contains more than that, it would be good to order 2 or more servings of each type of food.

Here are some of the food that we ordered:

1. Kingfish Miso Ceviche

An awesome starter, it is basically a Kingfish Sashimi with some crispy stuffs on top of it. The sashimi itself tastes savoury and little bit sweet. Squeezing the lemon to be poured on top of the sashimi would be a great idea for you who like a bit of sour taste.

2. Dengakuman

Dengakuman is a caramelised miso cod, with japanese salsa, and served with cucumber salad.
This is a must try menu. The soft texture of cod with little bit of sweet and savoury taste was indeed a pleasure for those who eat them.

3. Donatsu

Donatsu is basically a round-shaped doughnut with pineapple filling. This is a type of warm dessert, where you can feel the pineapple filling melt and spread in your mouth. Heavenly taste. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and cranberry sauce, it was indeed a perfect dessert to finish your Sokyo experience.

P.s: It would be a great idea to book your table first before coming in to the restaurant, since the restaurant is very busy and there is a high chance of you not getting a table because it has been fully booked for the night (especially during the weekend).

Cheers,
Yoppie

The Owner of Nishiki Restaurant runs a wholesale company that supplies Australia’s most premium wagyu beef to fine dining restaurants and clients overseas. He handpicks the best from his stock to use at Nishiki, which means they are full blood, marble score 7+ and safely traceable to Cabassi & Rea.

The most featured dish of Nishiki is wagyu beef oshizushi, Oshizushi, also known as box sushi, is a pressed sushi from the Kansai region, a favorite and specialty of Osaka. A block-shaped piece formed using a wooden mold, called an oshibako. The chef lines the bottom of the oshibako with the toppings, covers them with sushi rice, and then presses the lid of the mold down to create a compact, rectilinear block. The block is removed from the mold and then cut into bite-sized pieces If anyone come to North Sydney, please don't forget to try the genuine wagyu beef at Nishiki.
